Discover the power of Backcasting

I just wrapped up an awesome class on Backcasting: Creating Trails from the Future and it was such a great group to work with!

As students began sharing about the decisions they needed to make or take action on, I immediately started noticing people’s cognitive biases popping. I see biases, because I know what to look for.

Biases are often invisible and yet they impact our ability to think outside the box and create an inspired, exciting future.

I noticed one student saying, “Do I do A or B?”

Today for Thoughtful Thursday I want to share one cognitive bias with you. It’s the either/or bias, also known as black or white thinking, and I can guarantee there are many options that live beyond or between the student’s A and B!

Our brains like simple choices to conserve energy so it makes sense we might fall prey to the either/or bias.

Next time you catch yourself, or someone else, making a decision, and asking limiting questions like A or B, Yes or No, or With or Without, ask a bigger question like,

“What do I truly want out of this decision and what are creative ways I could get there?”

Would you like to overcome the power of invisible biases

and see them for what they truly are? Join our cooperative “What’s the Bias?” game and class for 90-minutes online tonight.

  • Learn to recognize biases
  • Reflect on the biases that could be tripping you up
  • Create your antidotes
