The Power of Action in Decision Making

Actions turn decisions into reality

Watch this Thoughtful Thursday video here.

Today, I want to share a personal story that highlights an important aspect of decision-making—it’s not just about deciding, it’s about taking action.

Recently, I was clearing out my mother-in-law’s garage, which we needed to repurpose. She passed away six months ago, and though it was tough, deciding how we wanted to use the space meant we had to take action. I wore my favorite frog shirt to remind me of our recent “Eat a Frog Challenge” – frogs symbolize those daunting tasks we often dread.

Here are a few strategies that really helped me tackle this big “frog”:

1. Support is key for taking action.

My friend Lisa joined me. Her presence made the process smoother and less overwhelming. We didn’t face the challenge alone, and that made all the difference.

2. New perspectives can help create momentum.

Lisa introduced fresh ideas about how to use the space effectively, offering new perspectives on what we were dealing with.

3. Just start and overcome the procrastination small step by small step

We didn’t wait to have all the answers. We knew our goal—clean up and reorganize the space. Starting small and building incrementally helped us manage the task without feeling overwhelmed.

4. Progress over perfection.

What I had been dreading for months took us only three and a half hours to complete. Lisa and I transformed the garage spectacularly. It wasn’t fully finished, but the significant progress made it easier to appreciate the hard work and even celebrate our achievement.

Sometimes, the key to effective decision-making is simply to step in and commit to action, starting with one small, manageable task. It can set the momentum for greater changes.

I hope this story inspires you to tackle your own challenges. Remember, it’s often just about taking that first step.

Happy Thoughtful Thursday!

Warm regards,
Amy
