Decision Fatigue is rampant these days, but there is something you can do about it.
Have you ever hit 5pm and felt totally spent… only to be asked one more question and want to scream?
You may be experiencing decision fatigue—a real phenomenon where our brains get worn down by the thousands of choices we make each day (some estimate over 35,000 daily!). And just like lifting weights, your brain tires out from constant use.
In a study of judges deciding parole cases, researchers found that parole rates dropped to nearly zero before lunch—only to bounce back to 65% after a break. That’s how powerful fatigue is… even for master decision-makers.
Here’s the good news: you can help yourself.

Here are 3 ways to reduce decision fatigue starting today:
1. Make big decisions when your brain is freshest.
For most adults, that’s early in the day—when your mental “file drawers” are open and easy to sort. For others (especially teens), it might be later in the evening. Know your peak time and protect it.
2. Automate the simple stuff.
Save your brain power for the big stuff. Think Steve Jobs wearing the same outfit daily—not because he lacked style, but because it freed up his mental energy. Try setting out breakfast or your outfit the night before.
3. Take breaks and refuel.
Yes, even naps count. Like those judges, you can reset your brain with food, rest, or stepping away. It’s not laziness—it’s strategy.
You don’t need to do it all at once. Just notice what your brain is asking for, and offer it a little support.
You weren’t born knowing how to make great decisions. Most of us never learned. But it can be taught—and that’s what we do at Clarity4Action.
