Rainbow Over the Valley

Do you hear me?

Today I was inspired by my two roosters taking turns crowing to each other. They crow, pause and listen, wait for a response, and then crow again.

Sometimes, we’re calling out like these roosters to say, “Do you hear me? I have something to say.” We’re longing for someone to listen and to respond with love, support, and encouragement. I want to remind you we can supportively take turns listening and responding as we communicate with others saying, “Yes, I hear you. I hear how you’re feeling. I hear what’s going on for you.”

You can:

  • Ask, “Can you tell me more about that?” Ask open ended questions.
  • Paraphrase back what you heard. Empathetically guess what’s going on for them.

It’s a wonderful gift we can give our family and friends when we simply listen when they call out and respond to them with love and support.

    Happy Decision Making!
